She wore dark green, a dress that skimmed her slim figure and brought out the color of her eyes. He knew nothing about women’s clothes, but it seemed to him this one had been designed to encourage a man to remove it. And then there were the heels. High. Spindly. Sexy. She looked willowy and elegant. And nervous.
He was thinking that he’d never seen anyone more beautiful when she scowled at him.
“Are you going to say something or are you just going to stand there gaping at me?”
There was uncertainty in her eyes and he kicked himself for not finding a smooth compliment when he needed one. “Never seen you in a dress before, that’s all.”
“If it’s going to stop you talking, I’ll change back into jeans.”
“Don’t change.” Or maybe she should. How was he expected to keep his hands off her? He was human, wasn’t he? “It’s snowing out there. I’m going to have to carry you to the cab or you’ll slip and break something.” And it just might be his heart, if this didn’t go the way he’d planned.
She stooped and picked up a bag. “I have boots. I’m changing into them now, but I wanted you to have the full effect before I ruined it.”
He’d had the full effect. It was going to take him a while to recover.
“You look pretty, Roxy.” It was the best he could do with his brain in its current state, but she seemed pleased.
Her cheeks glowed pink. “Where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise.” But now he was glad he’d talked to Paige, Matt’s sister and one of their friends who, thanks to her job running an events and concierge company, had contacts all over the city.
She’d assured him the table would be perfect. The view perfect. The service impeccable.
He had it all planned. When it came to relationships she’d only known bad. He intended to show her the other sort. He was going to give Roxy the “romance” she’d never had.
And later…well, he had plans for later, too.
