LVPD Sergeant Maxwell Layton, strolled back into his office, Hudson leaped up from the chair that he’d been occupying.
They'd been at the police station for over an hour, and his patience was depleted.
“I want her behind bars!” Hudson yelled, unable to control his outburst. “Her crazy ass could’ve killed Erica!”
“Babe, calm down,” Erica said as she rubbed his back. “More than anything, Allison needs help.”
Maxwell sighed and gestured for them to reclaim their seats while he sat behind his desk. “That’ll be up to the criminal justice system.” He explained the next steps as far as Allison’s arrest.
The last hour had been a whirlwind of cops and questions, and then a trip to the police station to explain the situation over and over again. Hudson couldn’t believe that Ally had kidnapped Erica, and his heart had stopped when her gun went off. He thought Erica had been hit. And she’d been afraid that he’d been injured. Thankfully, no one had been hurt, and the cops had shown up within minutes.
Hudson was struggling to get past his anger. Actually, he was angry with himself. Deep down, he knew there’d been warning signs and he’d chosen to ignore them. Though he wanted her to pay for what she’d done, more than anything, he wanted her to get the help she needed.
“Well, you two are free to go. I’m sure the detectives on the case will reach out with any other questions.”
Hudson shook Maxwell’s hand. “Thanks for everything.”
“No problem. Glad you guys are okay.”
Hudson guided Erica out of the office, thankful that he hadn’t lost her tonight. The evening could’ve turned out so differently. He would never take for granted the love they had for each other and couldn’t wait to marry her.
Hudson slowed once they were in the hallway and pulled her into his arms. “I love you so much. I almost lost it when I saw you—”
“Don’t,” Erica said and kissed him. “I’m fine, and I love you, too.”
They shared a long, sensual kiss and when it ended, Hudson said, “Come on. Let’s pick up Nakia and go home.”
Erica gave him another quick peck. “To your new home?”
“No. To our new home.”
