Tansy Carlson, another of West Investigations superstar computer gurus, was working her magic and helping Serena decipher the program code Charley left. Ryan was pretty good at numbers, so he was going over the financial records that they’d found in the safe-deposit box. Ryan had made himself comfortable at one of the empty desks in the technology department and was poring over the financial statements that they’d also found in the safe-deposit box at the bank. Tyre had been dispatched to pick up dinner.
When he finally pushed through the conference room doors, several of the heads in the room snapped up.
“Dinner is served,” Tyre said, setting the pizzas on the end of the conference room table that wasn’t covered in papers.
Serena moved to his side, going up on her toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you. I’m a breath away from passing out from hunger.”
“I could eat.” Ryan crossed the room and took half the stack of pizzas from Tyre and carried them to the credenza lining one wall of the room.
“Serena, could you help me grab drinks and napkins?” Tansy asked.
“Sure.” Rising, she followed Tansy to the break room.
Tansy opened the cabinet beneath the coffee maker and grabbed paper plates, napkins and several bottles of water.
“Hey, while I have you here for a minute, I just want to say thank you for everything you’re doing for me. You and Ryan have really stepped up, and I’m grateful.”
Tansy put the things in her hand down and pulled Serena into a hug. “Of course we stepped up. You’re a part of this team. If someone comes after you, they better be prepared for the full force of West Investigations to come down on them. One West employee in particular appears ready to turn this city upside down to protect you.” Tansy gave Serena’s shoulder a bump.
Serena felt heat flush her cheeks. She looked away from Tansy. “Tyre is just being nice. We worked on a case together recently and got to know each other a little. That’s all.”
Tansy’s brows went up to her hairline, and she grinned. “It looks like he’d like to get to know you a lot better. And if I’m not mistaken, you wouldn’t mind that at all.”
Serena sighed. “I don’t know what I want. No, that’s not true. I’ve had a crush on Tyre almost since the day I started working here and working with him the last few weeks only intensified it.”
“He’s a great guy and the two of you would be perfect together.”
“Would we? I mean, come on. I know computers, but men?”
Tansy waved away the comment. “Honey, they’re not that complicated. And more importantly, the way Tyre looks at you tells me everything. That man is into you. Now, you just have to decide whether you want to give what you two could have a chance.”
Tansy grabbed the plates and napkins and headed back to the conference room.
Serena scooped several bottles of water into her hands and followed, thinking about what Tansy said.
Could she and Tyre really make a go of a relationship?
